Using the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Group Psychotherapy  Download Clinical Practice Guidelines for Group Psychotherapyas a framework, develop an outline for leading 12-sessions (closed-ended) of a CBT-based psychotherapy group providing treatment to one of the following patient populations: smoking cessation, or depression, or chronic pain, or substance use. 


Within the context of your current medical practice setting (office type and patient population diagnoses, age, gender, race, ethnicity), provide a brief, yet concise and scientifically-informed summary as to how you would execute each of the following core group psychotherapy competencies:

  1. Creating Successful Therapy Groups
  2. Therapeutic Factors and Therapeutic Mechanisms
  3. Selection of Patients
  • Ethical Obligation: select members whose needs and goals are compatible with the goals of the group, who will not impede the group process, and whose well-being will not be jeopardized by the group experience.
