Understanding different types of studies, data, and research comparisons.
Describe at least one issue related to data accuracy.
List at least three types of bias that can affect epidemiologic studies.
Explain the distinction between different types of validity.
Give one example of how to measure reliability.
Understand the use of sensitivity and specificity when evaluating screening tests.
Step One: Read the Case Study from your textbook, Introduction to Epidemiology (pg 374-380) Retrospective Cohort Study of the Association of Congenital Malformation and Hazardous Waste
Step Two: Watch the video: Gulf Seafood Deformities: Gulf of Mexico fishermen, scientists and seafood processors are finding disturbing numbers of mutated shrimp, crab and fish that they believe are deformed by chemicals released during BP’s 2010 oil disaster: Duration: (2:29). This video can be used to help support information within your case study.
Step Three: Answer the Case Study questions 1-7 (you do not have to complete question 8) from the end of the case study. Your answers should be detailed and supported through outside research. If a PPT presentation is easier for you to create and submit for this project, that will be an acceptable file submission.
