SS22-CAS-114-730 Creativity and
Innovative Entrepreneurship

Instructions

In her Ted Talk from Week 2, Janet Echelman
talks about taking the imagination seriously.  For her, that meant
completely reinventing the type of art she made when she discovered her paints
hadn’t arrived. Instead, she was inspired by what was around her and found a
way to solve that problem.

While she is an artist, that action
represents the kind of problem solving that is the hallmark of an entrepreneur
and entrepreneurial thinking.

For this Creativity Quest, I would like you
to identify someone entrepreneurial in your community who inspires you. This
can be a small-business owner, an artist, a venture capitalist, a do-er…

Call that person and schedule a time to
briefly speak with them. Tell them you want to know about what inspired them to
start what they are doing. How did they decide to become a do-er, to change
things in the world around them? What potential failures — like Janet’s paints
have they had to overcome and how did they do it? How do they stay
inspired to innovate and where they go to find inspiration?

Ask them for their three top tips for
budding entrepreneurs.

After your conversation, write an
approximately two-page (double spaced) summary of what you learned. (Be sure to
tell me at the beginning who the person is and why you chose him/her/they!)

At the end, add their three tips and one or
two sentences of explanation for each. This is in addition to the two-page
summary, not part of it.

Please number them and use this format:

  1. Always Take Action. Blah blah blah blah. Blah Blah Blah
    Blah.
  2. Stay Passionate. Blah Blah Blah Blah. Blah Blah
  3. Have a Good Accountant. Blah blah blah.

Submit assignment to D2L in the “Creativity
Quest One” assignment folder.
