Hashing mini lab

In this exercise you learn about the basics of hashing. To complete this assignment, follow these steps and detail your findings along the way. Be sure to answer any question thoroughly. This assignment should be completed in Windows.  

Download and Install  (Located in Microsoft Teams as well).

We will use the hashing feature (SHA256) of this tool for this exercise. 

Open Notepad and type the following in the text into the file Test. Save the file as Test.txt

Using 7-Zip record the hash of this file (You will right click on the file itself in a window and use 7-zip and SHA). I suggest you use a Windows Snipping Tool for screenshots. Right click on Test.txt and rename the file to TestS4.txt.

Using 7-Zip record the hash of the file TestS4.txt. I suggest you use a screenshot. What happened to the hash value? 

Open the file TestS4.txt in Notepad and click save as. Type the message “Will the hash change?” and Save the file.

Open the file TestS4.txt in Notepad and click save as. Change the Save as type value to All files. In the File name:field add .pdf and click save.

Open the file TestS4.pdf in Notepad and click save as. Change the Save as type value to All files. In the File name:field add .docx and click save.

Delete the file TestS4.docx.
