Psychologists throughout history have long argued about what intelligence is – is it a single general ability or a collection of specific abilities, is it a narrow construct or a broad construct, is it influenced more by genetics or environment and how can intelligence measurement be use to benefit people or diagnose them?
Part 1 – Please the section of your textbook about the different theories of intelligence. Which theory or theories of intelligence best fits your understanding of intelligence after reading the section on intelligence? Which do you think most accurately describes intelligence? Which do you most agree with? Why?
Part 2 – Based on what you have read about intelligence testing, how useful to you think measures of intelligence are? What can the results of these types of tests be used for? Do you think there are any down-sides to using intelligence tests to measure intellectual ability?
